Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement

Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement  (INRAE). As the world’s top institute for research on agriculture, food, and the environment, INRAE researches focuses on science dedicated to life, humans, and the Earth that uncovers solutions to our most pressing concerns. The institute significantly contribute to European research and participates in European research programmes (e.g., via research networks, H2020 research projects, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions). INRAE includes 11 500 staff members, 5721 top-tier publications, 450 socioeconomic partners, €30.9M in revenue, and a budget of 1 billion euros. The ‘Institut Jean-Pierre Bourgin’ is one of the largest research centers in Plant Sciences in Europe. It gathers a unique ensemble of experimental resources and pluridisciplinary expertise in biology, chemistry and mathematics. The IJPB is a joint research unit under the supervision of INRAE and AgroParisTech, and belongs to Paris-Saclay University (1st French university and 13th world university in ShanghaiRanking). In addition, the teams involved in this project are part of the Paris-Saclay Laboratory of Excellence (SPS LabEx), which is gathering together more than 50 teams in the Paris region and has recently elected specialized metabolites as a priority area.

Main Tasks. INRAE will be mainly involved in WP2, to assess the composition and regulation of apple and pear fruit specialized (secondary) metabolites from both the DREAM vs. the conventional agroecosystem. A multiomic approach, involving untargeted metabolomic and transcriptomic will be followed. To better characterize the role in stress resistance of few selected metabolites showing major differences among agricultural system and/or varieties, their antipathogenic and antioxidant activity will be measured.
