University of Bologna (UNIBO) is currently the 1st Italian University in QS World University Ranking. It is involved in 275 projects funded in FP7 (87.7 Mil€ granted) and 281 funded projects in H2020 (116,7 Mil€ granted). Research activities are promoted, coordinated, and supported by the 32 Scientific Departments. With regard to Innovation, UNIBO has an active patent portfolio of over 370 patents, of these more than 20 are patented plant varieties. The Department of Agricultural and Food Science at UNIBO carries out active research in all agricultural and food disciplines, and has been acknowledged as “Excellent Department” by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research with new facilities and up-to date equipment in the field of agronomy, plant ecophysiology, entomology, molecular biology, genetic, biochemistry, soil-chemistry and food science.
Main Taks. Beside the project coordination which will be carried out by Prof. Brunella Morandi, UNIBO will be involved in WP1, setting up a living lab in the Emilia Romagna region, screening and making available its own apple and pear germoplasm population; consulting stakeholders; designing the experimental plot (ES) and upscaling the DREAM approach. In WP2 UNIBOwill set up ES1 on apple and will assess its agronomic, ecophysiologic, productive and environmental performance, as well as plant health and pollinators assessments. UNIBO will also take care of the soil nutrition and biodiversity determinations for all sites. It will contribute with data necessary to WP4. In WP5 UNIBO will set up the website, organize the stakeholder workshop and the final conference as well as trianing activities.
